Academic success
Learning is a mindset at our Clubs.
Our academic success programs integrate school learning with enjoyable activities. The result? A culture of high expectations and achievement. BGCNEO academic success programs improve literacy, enforce homework completion, expand access to technology, engage youths in the arts and prepare teens for college and careers. These programs include:
Power Hour, which is typically the first activity of the Club day. Our caring adult mentors provide homework assistance and tutoring for Club members, helping them stay on track in school.
Ready Readers Plus, which uses games and one-on-one attention to improve literacy skills for underperforming K-3 students. This program also fosters the practice of reading within families.
Money Matters, which promotes financial responsibility among teens by building basic money management skills through activities, investment clubs and Reality Store, a hands-on budgeting experience.
Ultimate Journey, an environmental education program created in partnership with the National Park Service. It is a hands-on STEM curriculum, designed for ages 9-13 (4th-8th grade).
Ready, Set, Work!, a BGCNEO curriculum designed for teens as they prepare for the workforce or higher education. The program teaches invaluable skills like resume-writing and interviewing.
Scholarship opportunities, which are available through a variety of sources, including partner organizations, companies and competitions, including our annual Youth of the Year contest.
Arts activities and instruction, which are made possible through the Opening Track music program and mentors at individual Clubs. Youth also take field trips to arts and culture venues, including the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
